SICILY. Syracuse. Second Democracy, 466-405 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.24 g, 10 h), circa 450-440. Charioteer driving quadriga walking to right, holding reins in both hands; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses; in exergue, ketos to right. Rev. ΣYRΑΚΟΣΙ-ΟΝ Head of Arethousa to right, wearing pearl diadem, pendant earring and pearl necklace; around, four dolphins swimming right. Boehringer 579 (V289/R385E). SNG ANS 181 (same reverse die). Lightly toned. Struck slightly off center and with minor areas of weakness, otherwise, very fine.
